Many people think the freshers flu is just a myth, but fact is… it’s real and believe you me you will wish you had taken this blog a little more seriously.

What causes the freshers flu?

  • Lack of sleep
  • Junk Food
  • Alcohol (let’s be honest, with all this freedom, I’m sure you’re downing more shots than you would at home)
  • Mingling – Germ Alert
  • Stress
  • Home Sickness

The freshers flu is likely to have you clinging to your duvet, tissue box, paracetamol and the worst of it… antibiotics! So, how can you beat it?

Easy, just follow these tips and tricks and you’ll be feeling better in no time!

Don’t wait to get the flu, try and implement these habits from day one!

1. Drink Drink Drink

Not just alcohol but water too, flush out those nasty toxins before they get too comfortable. Drink lots of water throughout the day, especially if you’re hungover. 

2. Vitamins 

Take your multivitamins everyday, religiously, make sure you’re keeping that immune system in check, especially if your diet has done a one-eighty on us all. 

3. Dettol it

Keep yourself and your space clean! Had friends over? Carry a bottle of hand sanitiser, change the sheets. Make sure to put away any dirty clothes, especially if you’ve had alcohol dropped on them, worn them on a night out or they’ve been borrowed. Keep your bedroom clean and wipe down the surfaces, same goes for the kitchen and bathroom! Make this a daily task, hygiene is everything.

4. Keep paracetamol on standby – grab some green tea

Make sure to have your herbal teas and pain-killers (if necessary) on standby, you’ll be needing it.

5. Sleep

Sleep it off, try and rest as much as you can. If you have to say ‘no’ then don’t be afraid to, you have 3-4 years of partying left, a couple days rest won’t hurt!

6. Eat well

Make sure to stock up on soups, as it is unlikely you will want to make any. You can get some semi-fresh ready made soups from Sainsbury’s, that are 100% better than your ordinary cup-a-soups. Get that good bacteria flowing in your body again by eating your yogurt too! And hey, ‘an Apple a day keeps the Doctor away’ … right?
