For some, coming to university without a TV is practically normal. Most of you will probably opt to watch your programmes on your phone, tablet or laptop… but that doesn’t mean you don’t need a TV Licence… you might!When do you need a TV Licence?

When you are planning on watching live TV or BBC iPlayer. This includes any device you choose to watch it from, including your TV and Games Console.

When don’t you need a TV Licence?

You don’t need a licence if you don’t watch live TV. You can instead opt to watch pre-recorded shows, DVD’s, Netflix and catch up services such as ITV Hub and All 4 (just not BBC iPlayer).

Don’t get caught out!

If you have a TV at uni and are a fan of EastEnders then chances are you will probably need a licence. However, if you’re satisfied with good old Netflix, All 4 and ITV Hub then you can dodge that licence fee.
