Still haven’t secured a graduate scheme? Even though it’s 2018, it still isn’t too late to find a graduate scheme.
Continue researching potential employers, some graduate schemes are released after January. Companies still offer work placements and taster days to final year students. Use your placement year experience to really stand out from other applicants.
Research target companies and schemes in depth
Many organisations offer a range, such as EY, which offers auditing, tax , advisory and technical consulting schemes. Understand what’s involved in each career sector and be ready to answer questions about it.
Find out what the company looks for in successful candidates
Don’t just read the description online, search for information on Glassdoor, find articles about the scheme and ideally speak to the Careers and Placement team at Aston. Book a practice interview, to get back in to the flow of things.
Tailor your application
We don’t mean Taylor, but tailor! The principles are still the same! To demonstrate the skills and qualities they want, you need to tailor your application. Typically schemes aim to recruit future managers so include plenty of evidence of leadership, initiative and teamwork. You should have good examples from your placement scheme or other relevant work experiences.
Look for details of the recruitment process online
It could include interviews, personality tests, group exercises, presentations and social events such as lunch with senior managers. Get some practice in all of these areas – ask the Careers and Placements
team for help.
